Nostalgia Concert Review: Jason Mraz

Band: Jason Mraz
Date: Friday, October 8, 2010
Location: Santa Barbara Bowl

Side note: Yes, like Wolf James, this is also an old concert review. There weren't any shows of interest this week, so enjoy a great concert from last year.

Preconceived thoughts of the band: Jason Mraz is one of my favorite artists/human beings in general. He has an awesome stage persona as well as an amazing presence in society. He is really inspirational for me and has a great message to send to the world. I love going to his shows, watching his videos and reading his blog. His music is so beautiful and he is such a talented musician.

What actually happened (Bitch Spoiler Alert!!):

We ended up getting to the show about an hour and a half before the doors opened. There wasn't that big of a line, but once they were opening up the gates, they were really unorganized about letting people with a front of a line pass first. Anyhow, once we got into the bowl we had a really good view. We were about 2 rows of people in the pit. When Jason came on, I was shocked about how close I was. I describe it as, "I was close enough to see the color of his eyes perfectly," (light blue, btw ^.^). Mraz always puts on a really interactive show. I usually can complain if the artist is not interacting with the audience or doesn't have much of a stage presence, but he is always talking. Colbie Caillat actually came out to the show and sang their duet, "Lucky" together. I dont really like her that much, but I thought it was pretty cool that she came out and sang. One thing I really like about Jason Mraz shows is that he plays with a live band. It makes the experience so much better. Overall, his shows are amazing just by the fact that he is so interactive. For songs like "Dynamo of Volition" he always dances and gets the entire audience to do the same dance. He actually pulled two different people on stage. For one, he pulled up a random girl and danced with her. She got to kiss him on the cheek and he kissed her on the cheek (yes, I am jealous). He also pulled up a little girl on the stage and we all sang her happy birthday. One really cool thing about his set/stage was that all of the background setting was made of recycled items. Overall, the crowd was really diverse. There wasn't just one main age range of people. There were alot of adults as well as young adults. That is one thing that I really like about Jason Mraz, is that his music is relatable to people of all ages, just because it is really enjoyable, low key music.

Verdict: I can literally complain about nothing for this show. Jason Mraz put on a pretty much flawless show. His inter activeness with the audience really makes the show.

Bitch rate: 1/5
