Mainstream Concerts vs. Indie Concerts

I know it's not the biggest issue for a music lover to come across with. It's all about the artist and their music; but is it REALLY always the case?! Is it the people, the venue, the "event" feel? the visual?

Well I'll break it down into two catagories...Mainstream and Indie.

Mainstream - I will probably be bias on this section of concert production. I've only been (and worked) at a couple of "mainstream" concerts. There are a couple of pro and cons I would like to address for this type of concert.

Pro - You get your monies worth - Whether it's a 100 dollar or twenty. All that money that you spend is going for the best equipment and the best people to work with it.
Visuals - Like I said before, with the money spend on the ticket a lot of it is for hiring video and sound engineers. They want to put the best effort in making it an experience by adding visuals to the music. Yeah those videos? you're paying them to put it up.
Quality Stars- You go for concerts because of what the artist can give you. Since they are selling tickets sky high you expect the best. A couple of interactions here, a little encore there.

Con - Too expensive - Seriously why would I spend a week's worth of food for a night of music?
aren't they getting enough money from iono...physical CD's...hmmm??
Too many people - yeah going to an arena with about 10,000 people seem pretty legit...long lines too merch, food, bathroom??

Indie -  There's a DIY mentality especially for baby bands. They are the ones booking the shows, making a budget, making the merch and getting connections. There's more worth when everything is built from the ground up. This is my scene and this is why.

Pro - Everything is small - The venue, the people, the band = intimacy
More successful event - What I mean is that they have a chance (while they are not famous) to interact with their fans. Have a meet and greet, sign their stuff etc.
Bragging right - Hey, you might see the next big thing...and you can be all hipster about it and say you saw them before they made it big =P

Con -  They might suck - They are not used to playing in a venue just yet, so they get stuck in club, in which they don't have any appreciation of music.....or their equipment may suck.
They are noobs - goes hand in hand with the first one. It could be their first time or tenth time playing infront of the audience. Practice makes perfect, you just have to deal.

Well there you have it, in all honestly going to indie concerts is the way to go. The fans are nice, the music is good, the visuals are not that blinding. They are just trying to get by.
